Translating and deciphering witness expressions.

i wanted to start a thread with correct explanations of what witnesses really mean when they say stuff... please add to it!.

"we missed you at the last meeting" = "where were you?

why did you miss a meeting!?".

"Why don't you come to meetings, don't you want to survive Armageddon?" = "Salvation comes from meeting attendance."

"The light gets brighter!" = "I will accept whatever they say no matter how stupid it is."

To Blue Dot or Not to Blue Dot. That is the question ....

so i've been noticing recently that some khs in the area where i live (socal) are putting up the jw.org little blue dot, but others are not.

i would think this would be a mandatory directive from hq.

does anyone here have any intel on the matter?.

On announcing the presence of a sexual predator

there's a lot of talk on here about changes the society must make, one of them being the announcing of sexual predators in the congregation.

i agree.

but do any other organizations do the same?

When sex offenders in the US are off parole they are like all others.They no longer have parole sanctions to not be with children. It is true that laws have changed for some offenders to lifetime parole! That might be different. I'm not up on that business. It would be wise to inform the congregation by individual conversations and not announcements. Telephone, telegraph and what is it everyone? yes, tell-a-witness. But all parents should be advised without a doubt. Once its out there will be no need for an announcement.

i have been a regular visitor to this site for several years now.

i never really felt the need to set up an account and post...until now.

at the close of yesterdays meeting, an older brother gave the prayer.

An 86 year old witness since the 1940s told me that they are using tablets in service and were receiving instruction on how to use them for the "Tract Campaign" last year. I asked what do you do if you don't have an iPhone or a tablet? She said, I guess you just go along and listen. It occurred to me that her day had passed and that the newest form of "phonograph" had made her faith obsolete, if not her as well.

When I was a drone I was entranced by the meetings and as an MS/ELDER I was absorbed in making them more interesting. I guess I was enjoying it because I was "the show". Once the BS meter kicked in I dreaded meetings and it wasn't long before I stopped going. I couldn't get through them. Enough was enough. I implemented a Flash Fade. Did I just coin a new label? I did a FF not a DOF.

FF = Flash Fade - as opposed to a -

DOF = Drawn Out Fade

What to do about wife and elders

it seams like every time i turn around i find out that the elders are trying to meet with one of my kids or are talking with them about things and of course my wife is instigating it.

if i say anything to my children she mentions something and they come running.

one of the ms's is also studying with them as well.

Pull the "spiritual head" card. No man or organization may take your place when it comes to your child's spirituality. You are in charge and they may not usurp your wishes. Put your foot down. Then study the "Commentary on the Book of James" with them. Good principles and easy on the 1914 crap. There, I said it. Lol. Good luck.

The less I hear this crazy talk the crazier it appears to be! Psalm 23: "He leads me..." obviously that means there is a GB not of human origin." Well of course it does. I feel incredibly sane when I hear that crap. Poor, poor JW's.

Really don't feel like a JW anymore

it has been a good 8 years away from my area, a good 10 years + since i was regularly at meetings.

a good 12 years since i was hesitantly active.. it is a slow process but it does happen.

i now feel no connection to the belief system beyond memories.

Busted my ass to help some old JW's I knew. It blew up in my face. These people are absolutely void of any true human kindness or personal loyalty to a true friend. I had tried to mix two worlds and it just wont work. There is the JW world and the REAL world. The twain shall not meet. Sad really. Feeling father out and better about it every day.

The school is an opportunity for the hierarchy to sustain itself. It hammers home the fact that there are elders who are more equal than others, they are the men of power because they are used in the school. Now the GB have taken the opportunity to put themselves in front of their hit men and keep the power close to their vests. For most elders the best part about the school is telling other people that they attended it. It was exhausting to me, so much drivel.

hey everyone, this is my first post.

i was contacted by the witnesses in1965, baptized in that same year at age 15. i was appointed an elder in 1975 and served as an elder for 20 years..

it hasnt been long since i learn ttatt and when i totally woke up.
